Dodge manufacturer rolled out its first pickup back in 1914, which was the first year when this company began to produce cars at all. Since then, their vehicles have built a reputation for reliable and stylish workhorses.
The first Dodge pickups were based on already existing passenger car platform in the line. Therefore, these vehicles were more often of small and medium tonnage. Dodge mastered the large-tonnage segment only in the period from 1930 to 1940. The pickup trucks of this company served well during the Second World War, but the financial problems that began by 1970 slowed down the progress.
In the eighties of the XX century, two of the most famous and popular Dodge brand pickups appeared – Ram and Dakota. Despite some innovations and popularity among certain groups of Americans, these pickup trucks were not in great demand. The revolution happened in 1993.
In 1993, the Dodge Ram appeared in an updated form, and in 1997 the Dakota kept pace with it. Representatives of the company listened to the wishes of their customers and made a pickup truck that looked as similar as possible to a trucker’s pickup. The brand had its unique style and handwriting, which noticeably distinguished them from competitors. By the mid-nineties, the Dodge Ram had already become a mainstream star and firmly established in American culture.
Until 2011, Dodge RAM pickup trucks were produced under the Dodge brand. Now RAM Trucks is a separate division still owned by Chrysler. With the appearance of Dodge trucks on the pickup market, the leaders of this segment, such as GM, Chevy, and Ford, had to make room for a new player. Today, you may find the following RAM models:
We can say that among the Dodge trucks, a used RAM 1500 is the best one to buy in Indianapolis.
Under the hoods of the 1500 series, you may find both diesel and gasoline engines:
Let’s take a closer look at the most interesting years of manufacture and trims.
Since 2018, the RAM 1500 pickup trucks can boast a phenomenally stylish exterior design with excellent aerodynamics. You will estimate a comfortable interior with a multimedia complex unique for this class, a flaunting 12-inch screen, adaptive cruise control, ventilation of the front and rear seats, and active noise reduction. From this model year, the trucks have been equipped with a mild-hybrid eTorque system. Its traction battery has a capacity of 0.3 kW, and the starter-generator provides an additional 122-176 Nm of torque. The mild hybrid can’t provide any feasible assistance to a powerful engine, but it helps with the acceleration of a heavy pickup truck and plays the role of a start/stop system. That’s how the 2018 Ram 1500 signed up for the most high-tech and advanced pickup.
The Ram 1500 Rebel, specially prepared for the serious off-road assault, deserves special attention. This version of the pickup truck differs in its Spartan appearance. High-quality plastic parts protect the body from damage, while a lifted suspension with shock absorbers and increased ground clearance gives a strong competitive advantage.
The 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX is a game-changing pickup truck on and off-road, capable of towing huge boats, tearing through any off-road terrain, or outrunning sports cars during drag racing. The extensive redesign that the Ram team did to create the TRX started with its frame. While the TRX is related to the RAM 1500, its frame was 74 percent modified, making the TRX a versatile vehicle. The new frame also brings updates to the suspension attachment points. The front axle is offset forward to help fit 35-inch All-Terrain tires on 18-inch rims. The powerful Dana M250 rear axle is attached to the frame with five-link rear suspension mounts. The new axles and tires add 6 inches to the TRX width and, therefore, ameliorates the off-road stability compared to the standard 1500.
Most Dodge RAM issues usually need simple fixes to get the truck back on the road. The most typical issues are:
The Dodge Ram’s ride is amazing. Even with an empty body, the car leaves unnoticed the bumps and topography of the primer, reacting only to serious differences in height. With a maximum load of 5,000 pounds, the suspension is inaudible at all, the truck moves smoothly and softly, and it has excellent energy intensity.
