The Ford F-150 is a full-size rear or all-wheel drive pickup truck that comes in 3 body styles: Regular Cab (single cab), SuperCab (one-and-a-half) and SuperCrew (double cab). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducted regular tests of 11 pickups, and as shown by the results of crash tests, many of the models require serious improvements.

Tests have shown that some pickup trucks tested failed to provide adequate protection in a frontal collision at 40 mph about the 25 percent passenger side barrier. The worst in this test was the Toyota Tundra, which scored the lowest possible rating.

The Ford F-150 performed the best among 11 pickups recently tested. The insurance institute noted its sturdy body and the flawless performance of the airbags. The readings of all dummy sensors were within acceptable limits.
